Why Nick Kolofoles Deserves Your Vote on the Hill Fighting the racism of Spanish Language Media, a personal attack by Councilor Marcos Devers on Spanish Language radio (he called him a senile old man), a Justice Department Lawsuit aimed at moving "white" voters out of his district to make the Tower Hill seat "Latino" and the dirty Politics of Willie Lantigua and Lenny Degnan; Nick Kolofoles took another hit from the Eagle Tribune last week. Kolofoles has been called an "obstructionist" and chastised for causing meetings to drag on by his long-winded speeches at the Council table. But aside from the superficial complaints about Kolofoles, (mainly that he is "white," talks more than other Councilors and doesn't go along to get along) a look at his voting record shows fiscal responsibility and a depth of caring for the people of Tower Hill as well as the people of Lawrence city-wide. Kolofoles fought hard to stop the administration from turning the Veterans Memorial Stadium over to the School Department as part of the high school construction project. He opposed the privatization of the Water Department and stood his ground on local control issues concerning the Lawrence municipal airport. Kolofoles has been active in the neighborhood for years, proactively driving through his district to check stop signs, street signs, garbage overflows, the conditions of parks and playgrounds and has been intricately involved in the community policing efforts to reduce crime on the hill. As a retired Tax Collector in the City of Lawrence, he understands the inner workings of city hall and takes great pains to read the details of budget proposals and tax levies. It is quite the contrast to other councilors who fail to read their information packets and yet vote on issues they are not familiar with. As the President of the Tower Hill Neighborhood Association, District "D" City Councilor Nick Kolofoles has a unique knowledge of the neighborhood problems and concerns on the Hill. The people of Tower Hill and the city as a whole would be better served if Kolofoles were to be reelected on Tuesday. He deserves your vote. |
