Councilor Gosselin had several irregularities on the donation section of her report. Three of the contributors were listed on her report as contributions from Lawrence Businesses. Adamson Industries ($330.00), Teneras Tire Shop ($75) and a donation from the Mayor's brother Tommy Sullivan listed as a personal donation from him but the address listed is Sullivan Insurance in Lawrence. Mr. Sullivan lives in Methuen.
State Law requires residential addresses to be listed for all contributors, business addresses are not acceptable. If any of the listed
businesses contributed using a company or business check,
according the secretary of state's office the donation
must be returned and a fine will be imposed. Also,
city attorney James Bowers (who had to be approved by the
council) is listed as a $60 contributor. The City Attorney's office works
for the city council.
Gosselin spent $3,847.88 most of which was used to pay for typical campaign materials (stamps, signs, fund raisers etc.)
There were no unusual expenditures of note except $199.98 spent at Staples in NH. Massachusetts State law requires state taxes to be paid on all out of state purchases. No expenditure for state taxes was listed. |
