In a move not seen since Jose Santiagao promised not to run for Mayor,the former State Rep. turned on one of his own (again) and announced in the Spanish Language press that he will be a candidate for State Rep. next year against Willie Lantigua. Councilor Alvarez, said weeks ago that shewould not have considered running if Santiago had exppressed an interest inreturning to the Legislature. Alvarez said during her announcement that she will not run for Santiago's old job if he had expressed an interest in running. No word yet from Santiago as he has only told the SPANISH press. When we hear from him we will update you. For all his faults (which are numerous) at least Santiago fought for ALL Lawrencicans, and not just "Latinos" as Lantigua has done for the last year. Mayor Mike Sullivan said he was very disappointed that the home rule petition Councilor Gosselin submitted top the council and badgered them to pass is still not right. Gosselin refused to change languagethat allows Lawrencians to vote without an ID! "This isn't going to the state until the language is changed," Sullivan said at the Hispanic Week luncheon yesterday. "I don't understand why this wasn't done right after a year of hard work and planning."
