Election '04''

Santiago in - Alvarez out!

In a move not seen since Jose Santiagao promised not to run for Mayor, the former State Rep. turned on one of his own (again) and announced in the Spanish Language press that he will be a candidate for State Rep. next year against Willie Lantigua. Councilor Alvarez, said weeks ago that shewould not have considered running if Santiago had exppressed an interest inreturning to the Legislature. Alvarez said during her announcement that she will not run for Santiago's old job if he had expressed an interest in running. No word yet from Santiago as he has only told the SPANISH press. When we hear from him we will update you. For all his faults (which are numerous) at least Santiago fought for ALL Lawrencicans, and not just "Latinos" as Lantigua has done for the last year. Planning Board member, Israel Reyes, the twice failed candidate for District "D" City Council (and failed candidate for State Rep. against Jose Santiago) is expected to announce his candidacy for City Council again on Saturday morning.

Short on issues he says the campaign

Lawrence Mayor Mike Sullivan has appointed Peter Slipp to head his "new" vacant lot task force The same vacant lot task force he told us two years ago he was forming. And one year ago....and six months ago. But this time he means it. The appointment of Peter Slipp means developers like (his former business partner) Chris Cox will be able to break the law, get sweetheart deals and make a fortune at our expense. Remember, this is the same Peter Slipp who cut deals in city lawsuits so his political friends could profit. The same Peter Slipp who does private legal work at the expense of the city. It is clear that Sullivan has sold us out and just doesn't care that Lawrence is being ripped off. What isn't clear is why a man who cares so much about his image would compromise his integrity to help con artists fleece our city.

The Methuen Mayor's race is barely under way this year and Council President Bill Manzi is already thinking about the race of 2005. Manzi appeared on Paying Attention!
