To the People of Lawrence
Mark Gray

I would like to introduce my 3 sons: Mark Anthony, Steven, and Nathaniel.  You’ll notice they are not holding any books.  I had to purchase books for them because the school system along with Amy McGovern doesn’t believe in them.

These kids have been brought up to be respectful to their elders, their community and their environment.

You may have seen them when I was out talking to hundreds of people in the district.  Or it’s possible you saw them picking up a piece of trash from the ground and throwing it away, or even a dropped grocery item in the store and returned it to the shelf.  I raised them by setting an example.  To the 200 people who were able to see what needs to be done in our school system, I want to thank you for being 200 citizens who did a duty to your community.

I know that what I’m about to say will not register to many, but I was not the person who lost the election.  The children lost, the parents lost and the community lost.  The education that kids like mine could have received was tossed aside for those who believe that the comic relief Amy McGovern provides to a grave situation was more important than educating our young.

Those voters were unable to see past themselves for the common good.  I’m sure it’s the same people who will continue to complain about the school system in the years to come, but themselves need to be educated that change doesn’t happen by continuing with the same people year after failing year.

My family, like many others in this district, has to now make a decision to pack up and leave so that my kids can get a education.  Forced to leave because voters and people like Amy McGovern can’t think beyond themselves.

I was very unhappy with the election voting after having talked to so many people who knew, like me, what needed to happen.  My kids may be too young to merit an explanation of what took place on September 27th; I’m fighting with the moral question of how do you teach children to respect a community that refuses to respect them.

In the palm of your hand was a leader willing to dedicate himself to education reform, complete with the knowledge and the determination to do it.  And it was pissed away for another 4 years of someone committed to only ask questions!?
