Lawrence Police Confiscate
Pot Plants Just Blocks from City Hall

10/03/06

LAWRENCE- When a Lawrence city councilor went to visit a relative on Newbury Street in Lawrence last month, he noticed something odd growing just a few houses away.

“At first I thought I was seeing things,” the councilor said, asking not to be identified. “Then I realized I was seeing it right. It was a monster marijuana plant that stood taller than I am.” (pictured right)

Upon further examination, the councilor noticed a patch of other marijuana plants that were much smaller than the one that originally caught his attention.  “I thought it would be a great story for The Valley Patriot,” the councilor admitted, “so I went home and got my camera before I called the police.”

The councilor said he contacted Lt. Sean Conway at the police department, told him what he had seen and then we went to the house to show him the plants. The councilor said he was not sure if anyone was arrested, but “they definitely confiscated the plants.” Lt. Conway did not return our calls for this story.
