Police Restore Vandalized Memorial
For fallen Officers
Tom Duggan

LAWRENCE- Last May, The Valley Patriot reported on the vandalism of a memorial erected to honor fallen Lawrence police officers Peter Manning and Thomas Duggan, Sr. (Police Memorial Vandalized) Last month, the Lawrence Police Relief Association put the finishing touches on a year-long restoration project. The Association not only repaired the memorial, but volunteers also erected a gate and made the monument less accessible to vandals by erecting a protective border of cement columns to keep anyone from driving a car onto the property.

Officers privately raised money and sought donated material to restore the memorial, holding poker nights and raffles. The Police Relief Association is holding a golf tournament on Sept. 9th at Crystal Springs in Haverhill to further help cover repair costs.

Lawrence officers spent more than 40 hours each painting and rebuilding the damaged portions of the memorial on their own time. The road and cement columns behind the memorial were constructed for free by Newport Construction. The columns and flagpoles were donated by Helfich Boilers. The Valley Patriot staff wish to express their thanks and appreciation to these fine officers and all those who contributed to the year-long project.

The Lawrence Police Memorial is located at Bellevue Cemetery on the corner of Manning and Duggan Way.
