An Offer to Merrimack Valley Muslims
Valley Patriot Editorial Board

The events of 9/11 and the continuing threat to civilization posed by worldwide Muslim terrorists have been of the utmost concern to the citizens of the Merrimack Valley for almost three years now. Our newspapers, magazines, and TV/cable news programs, not to mention our daily conversations with friends, family, and co-workers, have been dominated by discussions of this threat.   Most of us believe that terrorism poses a threat to our lives, our freedoms, and the continued advance of the world’s standard of living. Despite this, little has been heard on this topic from Americans of the Muslim faith or from Muslims residing in the Merrimack Valley.

We at The Valley Patriot find the silence of Muslims on this topic both surprising and very unfortunate. Of course it is possible that American Muslims have expressed their views on this topic but that the local media has not provided an effective forum for disseminating Muslim sentiments. It is also possible that the fault is ours - maybe we have just not been very attentive.   The Valley Patriot would like to offer Merrimack Valley Muslims the opportunity to be heard by their fellow citizens. In this spirit, we offer a minimum of ½ page in our June edition (more if justified by the response) for any opinions on these and related matters received by May 25th from members of the Muslim faith.

We will give preference for spokesmen from recognized Muslim organizations but, space permitting, we will also print individual opinions. All opinions will be printed unedited but must be for attribution with confirmation of authorship. Please e-mail your responses to
valleypatriot@aol.com or mail us at 47 Brightwood Avenue, North Andover MA 01845.   We look forward to providing this forum for the Muslim community.
