Linda Dean Campbell's Address
at the Methuen Democrat Breakfast

I want to thank our Methuen Democratic Committee for providing us  opportunity to participate this morning.  And, thanks to all of you for coming this morning.

Regarding  our future: as I campaign and meet with Methuen voters daily, I sense new hope and a call for  democrats to seize  the initiative  on issues that are so important to  us individually, but more importantly -  so vital to us collectively-

The need for a fair system in which we all contribute to provide for  health care for all,

Directly linked  to this  - the greatest challenge facing  our state leaders is -the need to bring and retain sustaining jobs to our Commonwealth.
As our working population dwindles - we  - and all working families –   all suffer. The need to restore funding for communities especially in the areas of education and public safety.

The need to ensure that our elders can afford to live with dignity in the communities where they worked, and contributed all their lives.

The need to put children first – always.

My job as your state representative will be to work with my colleagues to address these issues and to ensure priority funding for Methuen in the areas identified by Mayor Manzi and our City Council    -

I believe that nothing good is accomplished by the force of ego – it is accomplished thru sincere listening, true communication, and good will

Before I ask you for your vote -  I need to tell you why  I believe am the right  person  - at this time —to represent our City in our State Legislature

First, I am blessed to be a wife and  mother of school age children both of which  keep me  deeply involved and invested in our future,

My experience as an Army officer, a teacher and city councilor,  along with my formal education,  prepare me very well for this important  responsibility.

However,  I want you to know, that I  believe that my resume is only a required starting point  for my candidacy. I could not stand before you this morning asking you for your vote unless I:

Had demonstrated integrity and honesty in my public service to Methuen

Unless I had I been a leader on city council for 6 years.

Unless I had achieved results working as a team member with our Mayor and our state legislators on initiatives such as:

Bringing a YMCA to Methuen,

Sponsoring legislation adopted by the city council to control growth  and successfully procure open space

Working with Senator Baddour and Rep Broadhurst on the Rotary and the Pelham Street exit ramp and on many other transportation needs

Bringing a satellite post office to West Methuen

Chairing two council committees which addressed very politically charged issues

I want you to know that I initially ran for city council because I was deeply involved in our community – and because at the time I  was leading a coalition to prevent an irresponsible corporation from  locating a power plant in a Methuen neighborhood.

It took two years but our Commonwealth finally agreed  - and denied the permit.

I provide these examples only because I would not stand before you this morning  unless I could demonstrate to you:

That I have a passion for legislative service and true commitment to our community;

The ability to get results; and That I am not afraid to challenge current thinking or propose bold solutions - You know that I will be everywhere in our community – as I have been during the past 6 years -  Listening and learning

You know that I will get results.

You know my passion and committment.

My vision for our Commonwealth is one that will challenge and inspires us to be stewards of the future…

This is why I am running as a Democrat.

And, it is with enormous respect for all of you  - that  I ask for your vote  and your support.
