Aerospace Company Moving to
Haverhill
More Great
news for Haverhill: 150-200 new manufacturing jobs
Mayor
Fiorentini was joined last week by Lt. Governor Healey to
announce that the Magellan Aerospace Company will move to
Haverhill. Magellan Aerospace is an international company
with offices in Toronto, Canada, England and Middleton,
Massachusetts.
Magellan will consolidate its Middleton and Peabody
facilities to the industrial park on Computer Drive, off
of Route 97.
They will employ 150 people in Haverhill to start, and
hope to expand by another fifty to 100 people. They will
be operational by the end of 2006.
The mayor and the Economic Development Office of the city
of Haverhill have been meeting with Magellan officials
for months to persuade them to move to Haverhill.
The company had considered moving out of Massachusetts.
It took a great bipartisan team effort of state, local
and private industry people to persuade them to locate
here. Here are a few people who deserve credit for this
great news for our city.
* Governor Mitt Romney personally called the CEO of
Magellan Aerospace and asked the company to remain in
Massachusetts.
* Economic Development Director Bill Pillsbury went
personally to the Magellan offices in Middleton, and met
with key company officials to persuade them to come to
Haverhill. Bill is the former economic development
director for the state of New Hampshire, and was able to
outline for the company the benefits of staying in
Massachusetts. Bill and I met personally several times
with Magellan officials to persuade them to locate here.
When I asked the company executives some of the factors
which persuaded them to come to Haverhill - when so many
communities were recruiting them - they specifically
cited the personal efforts of Bill Pillsbury.
* The state office of MassDevelopment secured a low
interest loan to enable Magellan to locate here.
* The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce - which held
open houses and worked hard to help promote this property
for reuse.
Companies like Magellan drive economic growth here
in the Commonwealth, Lt. Governor Kerry Healey said
of the successful effort to keep Magellan Aerospace in
Massachusetts.
Landing Magellan Aerospace is great economic news for
Haverhill. Magellan Aerospace will generate new tax
revenues, and will mean 150-200 new manufacturing jobs
for the city.
